In this studio we explored the structure and construction of a timbral vault. We began our analysis by studying Antoni Gaudi’s method of using chains to create structure that responded to forces. We then studied Guastavino’s tiled vault structures in New York. After gathering this information we designed and built a vault of our own. Used Karamba to analyze the structure’s capacity. Made shop drawings. Designed a removable formwork and used tiles mortar and plaster of paris to create the final pavillion structure.
